Openings, Views & Lions

Hi everyone! I hope you´ve all had a good week. Its been a rather busy week here in Los Gigantes. Our week started a bit quiet and we able to take a coffee at Costa The View, a friendly cafe in Varedero that boasts probably one of the best views around, the coffee is great also, People that know me will know I like a good hot coffee and this place delivers just that! They do snacks and they also have live music a few nights a week featuring local artistes. If you´re around that area, pop in, I´m sure they would love to see you! Costa - The View

We have been getting ready to open our bar this week and our opening night was on Friday. Due to social distancing and Covid 19 we cannot seat as many people as we could before, however we had a great steady flow of locals who were keen to support us and it was great to see everyone. We are currently open on friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 6pm. As tourism returns we will add more nights and we hope to do some live music in the future along with Karaoke.

I was lucky enough to be asked to sing at the Wine bar and terrace on Thursday evening along with Jay Francis who performs a tribute to George Michael. He has become a great friend over the years and it proved a great success. It was a sell out night and a big thanks again to all our supportive loyal locals, even the local police were in attendance. Visit them here to find out more The Wine Bar & Terrace

Finally this brings me to Saturday evening and an event that I was unable to attend, The lions charity event which was held at Flor Del Drago restaurant in Playa De La Ă„rena. My good friend Irene Tucker went along with her husband David and I asked her to tell me all about it:
Flor del Drago did the Santiago del Teide Lion's Club proud again.
On the occasion of the  President's  Night, a somewhat  depleted  number  of  members  and  friends sat down to a splendid 3 course meal. Our local Lion's Club do great  works  helping the community  all year round, especially now in these difficult times.
Our meal was totally delicious, served by Carine and her staff with their usual efficiency, and cooked by master chef  Heinrich.
We were served inside in comfort,  but  there is also a spacious terrace with  shade outside.
A most enjoyable evening  thanks to the company and Flor del Drago.

A Big thank you To Irene for telling us all about it.
Until Next time, stay safe and take care
Hollie x

Masks, Malls and Meals

With our bar getting close to reopening we decided that personalized face masks were in order, anything for a bit of publicity and why not! we sourced them locally on the island and drove down to Playa De Las Amercias to pick them up. The company is called Paisley Designs and they can be found on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/paisleydesigntenerife/, Many thanks to Sue for doing a great job.
From there is was off to Siam Mall as we needed a couple of things and sadly due to Covid its pretty much the only place in the south with a wide range of shops that are open, and although I am a massive supporter of local stores what we have to remember is these large chain stores started out with only one or two stores and have only got where they are because of ongoing support. Sadly the rest of the south currently resembles a ghost town.
From the mall we drove back up the west coast to a village called Piedra Hincada where good friends of ours live, we had arranged to meet up for dinner. Its a residential area so not that much has changed during lock down although many of the residents who live there are currently out of work waiting for the tourists to arrive and the hotels to reopen. We met at a bar called Bar La Era, its very Canarian and does fabulous food. Not only is it good but you get a lot of it as you see by Eddies Pork Chop! https://www.facebook.com/La-Era-Bar-Parrilla-431911120945868/

The state of emergency has now been lifted in Spain which means that borders are now open and people from other countries can now travel here. I believe that there tests on arrival and forms have to be filled in regarding where people will be staying on the island, among some other questions. At the moment the UK Government are advising against all but essential travel, whether this will change in the near future is anyone's guess!

Welcome to I Love Los Gigantes

Welcome to I Love Los Gigantes

My name is Hollie Bourne and I love Los Gigantes. So much so that four years ago my husband and I along with our son Jack moved here and opened a bar called 60´s Bar. Since lock down our bar, along with nearly every other business in Los Gigantes, with the exception of those selling or providing essential services has been closed.
However, Los Gigantes is slowly coming back to life, things are starting to reopen and we hope to be able to start welcoming tourists soon. I have made it a hobby and a mission to get Los Gigantes back on the holiday map as its a beautiful corner of the island and it has a lot to offer.
I will be writing regular blogs as I go out and about re exploring this beautiful area.
We are lucky in that we have a vast choice of delicious restaurants to try and I fully intend sampling as many of them as I can. We also have many other tourist attractions along with our beautiful cliffs, so you are pretty much guaranteed a stunning view where ever you go.
So join me as I explore this corner of Tenerife and don't forget to follow us on our social media pages and keep up with whats going on!
