Or at least I hope that's what it is!
Our little bar remains open by a thread, along with many other businesses both locally and further afield. It is so sad to see our tiny island this quiet.
The beaches get quite busy at the weekend but it mostly locals, young families with children who are probably at school all week. The rest of the time the beaches remain eerily quiet as we saw on a trip out last week.
We needed to go to Los Cristianos for a few things so we decided to park on the harbour. Well actually we went down the harbour to turn around but there were so many port police around that we thought it was just easier to drive in to the car park and leave the car there for an hour or so. We have no idea why there were many police around, maybe since covid and brexit they are watching the arrivals and departures a lot closer than they were before.
With the car parked, we headed along San Telmo beach front. Usually this would be a hive of activity and full of people. Its a lovely stroll along the beach front and there are plenty of shops, bars and cafes should you need to stop along the way. On this particular day it was very quiet, just a handful of people passed us along the way.
We decided to walk back along the top road and the scene that greeted us there was pretty much the same as the beach front. There are a few places open and I would imagine they do Ok at the weekends but I do worry how long we can all last on "Weekends"
With all that said, it does feel like things are moving forward in a slightly more positive way. Many people are getting vaccinated now and the process is very simple and stress free. The governments also seem to be talking about "Green" countries. I'm not entirely sure what this means with regards for travel in the coming months and the fact that they are saying that people who have been vaccinated will still need tests doesn't fill me with that much optimism. It also makes me wonder how much confidence they actually have in these vaccines, only time will tell.
We now have an 11PM curfew which is a slight improvement on 10PM but we are still only allowed to have people on the terrace and not inside. While the 11PM is better, it doesn't really make that much of a difference when there are still so few people here, We wait with baited breath for the next bulletin on Thursday and we try to remain hopeful that tourists will be allowed in soon.
I've had a busy time sewing this week and I don't know what I would've done through these times if I hadn't got all my hobbies.
I continue to learn new songs, play guitar and study Spanish but this week I decided to have a look at some summer dresses that have been in my wardrobe for many years. Most of them were too long as I used to where them with sky high platform heels, I've now taken a couple of inches off the hems and given them a new lease of life.
It feels like I've got new frocks so its a win win situation!!
Until next time, stay safe and try to keep the cheese in place
